Material Technologies Completes Reviews of Three Bridges at the Request of Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation

Los Angeles, CA-- May 9, 2006—Material Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB; MTNA.OB - News) ("MATECH") announced that its team of engineers has completed informal reviews of three bridges in Pennsylvania at the request of that state’s Department of Transportation. The state has expressed interest in evaluating MATECH’s patented metal fatigue detection solutions to help ensure the structural integrity of its steel bridges.

The bridge visits were conducted in connection with a proposed agreement to inspect several bridges using MATECH’s Electrochemical Fatigue Sensor™ (EFS). Pennsylvania provided information on where fatigue damage is of concern to these major bridges. MATECH is planning to use EFS for special inspections of these structures.

MATECH CEO Robert M. Bernstein commented: “We are extremely pleased with our progress regarding the proposed inspection of Pennsylvania’s bridges. Our engineers were able to review the bridges and gather the information they need to prepare a detailed inspection plan using our innovative nondestructive metal fatigue detection solutions and recommend amelioration methods.”

EFS uses patented technology to measure fatigue damage in metal structural members, detecting the minutest growing cracks in the metal. It can find growing cracks as small as 0.010 inches. No other current state of the art measurement technologies can detect if a crack is growing or not, and as small as EFS can.

MATECH has received a great deal of interest from federal and state agencies recently following the passage of the $286 billion Federal Transportation Bill which allocated $5 million to help states evaluate nondestructive methods such as EFS to test growing fatigue cracks in steel bridges.

About Material Technologies, Inc. (MTNA.OB)

MATECH is an engineering, research and development company specializing in technologies to monitor metal fatigue in real time. The company’s leading edge metal fatigue detection and monitoring solutions can accurately test the integrity of metal structures and equipment including bridges, railroads, airplanes, ships, cranes, power plants, mining equipment, and heavy iron. MATECH owns the only nondestructive testing technology able to find growing cracks as minute as 0.010 inches—critical information that allows structural engineers to isolate and repair the more than 100,000 steel bridges in the U.S. which have been classified as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete by the Federal Highway Administration. MATECH has exclusive rights to seven patents along with $8.3 million in already completed contracts from the US Government for research, testing and validation of its innovative solutions.
